Riverview is a small public school district serving the Pittsburgh, PA, suburbs of Verona and Oakmont. Their vision is to take a community-centered, artisan shop approach to teaching the critical skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary to succeed in an ever-changing global society.
Encompassing approximately 1.5 square miles and serving about 1,000 students, Riverview is comprised of the Junior Senior High School with students in grades 7-12, and two elementary schools (Verner Elementary School and Tenth Street Elementary School) for grades K-6.

The Challenge
Like many school districts across Pennsylvania, Riverview School District depends on volunteers to support classrooms, extracurricular programs, and student experiences. However, state‑mandated clearance requirements, while essential for student safety, create a complex administrative burden. For years, staff managed volunteer documentation manually, collecting forms, tracking expiration dates, and monitoring compliance by hand. This process consumed significant time and left room for error, especially when volunteers needed individual reminders to renew clearances rather than receiving automated notifications.
The Solution
To improve the volunteer experience and reduce administrative burden, Riverview School District implemented Edulink’s New Volunteer Module of Comply. The module centralizes the entire volunteer lifecycle from registration through approval inside the same interface already used for employee compliance. Volunteers self‑register and are automatically assigned the correct clearance requirements based on their volunteer role. Because the workflow mirrors the existing Comply process for district employees, staff no longer need to manage a separate system or manually track documentation.
Separating volunteer requirements from employee requirements also streamlines reporting and eliminates the need for spreadsheets or paper files. Automated reminders notify volunteers when clearances are nearing expiration, shifting the district from a reactive to a proactive compliance model. Additionally, staff responsible for checking volunteers into buildings or events can access a simple, real‑time report showing only those volunteers who are fully approved to participate, ensuring safety and compliance with minimal effort.
Because the workflow mirrors the existing Comply process for district employees, staff no longer need to manage a separate system or manually track documentation.

“Edulink’s Comply Volunteer Module has been one of the best additions to the product line. I was fortunate enough to be ‘heard’ by the Edulink team during the development phases. Many questions were answered, ideas discussed, and items implemented. Now I am very happy that our district has fully launched the volunteer module, and it is making my process both simpler and time effective. Additionally, the volunteer status being updated and active in real time has been great! It makes for a very productive process overall in all schools and activities.”
